Updating your address protects your mail and your identity.
Start with USPS
- File a change of address with the U.S. Postal Service online, at a post office, or by mail
- Online, use the official USPS site; it charges a small identity verification fee
- Be wary of lookalike sites that charge much more
Then update
- Banks and card issuers
- Employer and payroll
- Driver's license and car registration (states have deadlines)
- Voter registration
- Insurance, doctors and subscriptions
- The IRS and your state tax agency
