Hi there,
This issue's tip: the lowest quote isn't always the cheapest move
If one mover's estimate is far below the others, and they gave it without seeing your things, be careful. A common scam is a low quote, then a much higher bill on moving day, with your belongings held until you pay. Get at least three written estimates based on an in-person or video walk-through, and check every interstate mover's USDOT number on ProtectYourMove.gov.

This issue's cost-of-living idea
Before you accept a job in a new city, write a monthly budget using real rents from listings there, plus state income tax and commuting costs. The difference tells you what the new salary needs to cover.
Reader question
"A website charged me $40 to change my address. Is that normal?" No. The official USPS site charges only a small identity verification fee online, and it's free at a post office. Lookalike sites charge much more. See Change your address.
Happy moving,
